une and Stephen Negrycz enjoy life in the slow lane—at least when
it comes to decorating their historic townhouse in Brooklyn. “It’s a
low-key treasure hunt for us,” June says. “We’re not in a hurry to find
any specific thing.” The couple’s reluctance to quickly decorate their
home has paid off, June says; they spent more time than money to
I
achieve their warmly personal and collected look. As an interior
designer, June, passionate about decorating, filled their home with
art, books, and comfortable furniture that didn’t break the bank.
“The fabric looks grand, but it’s affordable,” she says, noting the $5-per-yard
wool that covers the library’s four chairs. Old drawings, maps, and etchings, many
picked up while traveling, sprinkle the walls. When Oriental rugs—a favorite of
Stephen’s—weren’t in the budget, June opted for colorful look-alike reproductions
that are reversible, “so if we got one side soiled, we could turn it over,” she says.
“I’m a practical person.”
